All true and good work.
I have said the following a few times and for some reason it just does not stick, maybe I am wrong...
I cannot understand the obsession with this fast money work for someone else platform mindset by so called freelance writers. It makes no sense to me. Writers chose to write on platforms like Medium because it was easier and more accessible then publishing books or articles for newspapers and magazines or working for them fulltime. Writers wanted a sense of control. Can we agree on that?
Well, like you made the comparison to YouTube, I too make that comparison and YouTube is well known for blocking, banning, de-monetizing and completely ruining content creators careers and livelihoods. Sometimes on purpose, other times because of algorithm upgrades. Why on earth someone would want to rely on the equivalent in the world of the written word?
Personally I think utilising platforms like Medium and Quora is great, especially when they both pay and expand the writers reach. However I believe in being self sufficient as a content creator. That means building your own platform. That means hosting a blog, building a website and doing it all from scratch. There is a LOT more work involved, but they payouts can be exponentially higher and the risks greatly reduced.
There will no doubt be a time when decentralized writing platforms truly take off (some already exist) and maybe then guys like me will have more trust in third party platforms.
Cheers
